An wonderful book that explores why major (revolutionary) change is often resisted in society. Especially relevant to World Class R&D is the chapter that describes how the entrenched iron industry stubbornly resisted the revolutionary advent of the Bessemer steel-making process, and how that resistance was finally overcome. Morison calls for a gradual introduction of new technology, a conclusion to the book that is ultimately unsatisfying. Read this book instead for the motivations and passions of key players as exhibited in the midst of revolutionary change (e.g., the introduction of World Class R&D thinking).
