Diagram illustrates variables that influence the commercial equation+, the value of the research, so-to-speak, for pharmaceutical R&D. For example, we investigate various biologic targets that move various surrogate measures (e.g., blood pressure) for a disease. How well we hit those targets, and how well we characterize the surrogate measure for the disease, determines the perceived value of the drug molecule we intend to sell at the end of the process.
